How do you stand out as a designer? Step back.
Designers are commonplace. Let’s just face that reality now. So what’s the difference between run of the mill design and outstanding presentation? The investment the designer has in the success of his or her client, that’s what.
The first tweet I ever wrote as @Tim_Daily is my mantra: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so it follows that design is in the experience of the consumer. Designers especially need to know what society seems to have forgotten: It’s not about you. You have to speak the language of the client and the consumer. You have the power of all those visual tools at your command, but they mean nothing if you cannot step back from your work and remove yourself from it. Always ask yourself, “Is this getting the message across?”
If there was ever a first message I could relay in this field, that would be it.
